ReSound, ReCognize, ReStructure
Cross–media translation of linear motion to a poster/24 x 36inch/Poster/Inkjet print/2007
To kill a mocking bird
This project is translating one work of media into another media form. My original piece was linear motion, the title sequence To Kill A Mockingbird by Stephen Frankfurt. I translated it into a poster. In this title sequence, we can find and observe the objects such as dolls, crayons, pencils, harmonica, clock etc. Every object symbolizes a situation in the movie. I interpreted them in my own way on my poster. I focused on the old memories of the objects and the redefinition of them. In my poster, if those objects used a certain perspective in the movie it was translated totally differently to show a variety of interpretations and meaning.
So, it can make people sound, cognize, and structure again on their own way.
Moreover, while I was working on translating it I had some considerations such as:
How I can express the time and sound within the medium of poster.
How I can convey the same feeling of motion piece to the people.
How I enable people appreciate poster the same way I did in motion piece.
What the hierarchies are in the poster among drawings, title (big text), time, and my interpreted description (small text).
